Vietnam Part 3: Halong Bay

Vietnam: Part 3

Halong Bay

Halong Bay is a very beautiful place about 3 hours away from the capital, Hanoi. We were supposed to go on a 2 night cruise but that was called off due to 'bad weather'. The Bay is home to several floating villages, literally a whole village built on top of the water amazing.

One of the villages

A view of the Bay

Inside 'Suprise Cave'

From the top of the lookout, had to climb 1200 stone steps to get there

A boat stocked up with goods for sale

The cruise ship

A beach (can't remember the name)

*braces*

Fishing boat

The Vietnamese flag

A policeman, all our bus drivers papers had to be checked before we could enter the capital

Cross between a tractor and a truck?

Picking up the kids from school

Some of my first attempts at light painting, taken from a moving bus

Thanks

Golden Moment

This is probably one of my all time favourite 'landscape' photographs I have ever taken.

Vietnam: Part 2, Hoi An

Vietnam: Part 2

Hoi An

This was the second city I visited. Hoi An was by far my favourite place in Vietnam. It is not a big city and is very quaint and cosy. Although there is a lot of poverty, many people have huge smiles on their faces.

Some of the many lanterns available

Wood carvers at work

Kites for sale

Father and son riding their pushbike

Typical Hoi An street

Boat lady

Lanterns on the riverbank

Some rickshaw men resting

Banana Lady

This old grandma was eating a cup of yoghurt

This old man was randomly laughing, so I took his photo

Hat merchant

Desolation

Vietnamese range of green vegetables

Salt lady

Probably one of my favourite shots of the whole trip. This was in the market

Meat Market. Was amazing because it did not smell and there was not one single fly around

Fruit stall

Smoking kills

Those sunnies

Old boat

Water Lilly

This 88 year old woman walks along the beach everyday selling snacks to the fat tourists. Amazing

Fruit seller
This lady was carrying a huge block of ice on the back of her bike. Pretty normal

Hope you enjoy this post:D

Vietnam: Part 1

Ho Chi Minh City

In October last year, (2013) myself and my family went to Vietnam for a holiday. We traveled from the south to the north and I was amazed at the rich culture and friendly people that I encountered. Poverty was everywhere and most of the streets were filthy. I often wondered how silly we fat, soft, sweaty, Australian tourists must look!! Anyway, here is a selection of my favourite images from Ho Chi Minh

Inside a Vietnamese temple

The phones that the army HQ used to contact the various sections of the army

A typical street vendor

Incense burning

A block of housing

One of my many photographs of the mess of powerlines:D

When the light turns green in Vietnam

A cathedral

Holding on for dear life

I like the symmetry in this shot

Love the lighting in this shot

A boy eating his lunch whilst riding a motorcycle. Multitasker

Discarded bunch of flowers

A lady making edible rice paper

A guide demonstrating at the Chu Chi Tunnels

This was our guide while we were in Ho Chi Minh, his name is Hung. He fought in the Vietnamese war for the Viet Kong. He had so little to eat during this period that as a 21 year old, he weighed 38kgs. He is describing the traps he made while he was in the army

Timers on traffic lights
Part 2 coming soon hopefully:D
